Tom Holland says he relied on his “loved ones” to support him during the early stages of his sobriety.

For those participating in “Dry January,” actor Tom Holland might inspire you to stick with it.

The “Spider-Man” star, now over two years sober, recently shared his journey in an interview with Men’s Health published Thursday. Holland spoke about the people who supported him throughout his sobriety.

Although Holland’s choice to quit drinking was his own and didn’t involve formal treatment, he credited his determination for helping him follow through.

“I’m quite strong-willed. When I decide to do something, I’m really gonna do it,” he explained. “I leaned heavily on those close to me: family, friends, old colleagues, new colleagues, and even strangers who reached out to share their own sobriety experiences.”

Holland also mentioned the crucial role his lawyer played during a moment of doubt. The unnamed lawyer offered him advice that proved transformative: “You’ll never wake up the morning after a night out and wish you had a drink.”

“That advice really resonated with me,” Holland admitted. “My issue wasn’t having one drink—it was that one drink would lead me to go too far.

Holland, who recently launched his own line of non-alcoholic beer called BERO, also recalled some of the work-related challenges he was met with.

Holland also reflected on his experience filming the 2022 TV series A Crowded Room, where he starred alongside Amanda Seyfried and Emmy Rossum.

“There was quite a lot of animosity on set. It wasn’t a very harmonious environment, and there was a lot of arguing and tension,” he recalled. He clarified that the conflict wasn’t related to creative differences, though he didn’t elaborate on the cause.

He continued, “I thought to myself, ‘If I start drinking again now, with all this going on, it’s only going to make things worse, right?’”

After completing the series, Holland took a year-long break from acting. He’s now back in the spotlight and was recently announced as part of the cast for director Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic, The Odyssey.
